A scenic cricket ground adjacent to a tennis court, of course…you’re in India!
The location of our first junior tournament, outside of Hyderabad, was brimming with competition, a welcome breeze from the summer heat, some eagles with a birds eye view and many parents and friends coming together to inaugurate it. Even though the turnout was small it did not leave the players wanting for a contest. The round robin event saw lots of matches being played, with players fighting to get a chance into the knockout rounds.
Local favourites in the Boys events like Zabdiel, Kanishk Gupta and Sudharsan Murugesan, among many others, put up a fight in the U12 and U10 categories.
Finals Highlights
Anish Sharma (TS) commanded his way to the final, breezing past the competition. He won the Under 10 final beating Nithilian (KA) 4 – 1, 4 – 1.
Tanmay Reddy (TS) won the U12 final beating Sriniketh Kannan (KA) 4 – 0, 4 – 0. He did not drop a game the whole tournament, a completely authoritative performance from him.
The Girls final saw Snehasree Senthilkumar (KA) meeting Anais Laura Marechal (France). Even though the score did lean on one side, the match lasted 45+ minutes where each point was a fight to the finish. Snehasree prevailed to win the Girls event 4 – 1, 4 – 0.
Overall it was an exciting two days, a lot of new players got to know about our league and the tournaments we’ve done in Hyderabad. We can’t wait to host a few players from Bangalore in our home city, and look forward to the next tournament to be conducted there again.
Athena Tennis Academy
ITL would like to thank the Athena Tennis Academy for hosting the tournament and organizing it. This was perhaps one of the more professionally organized events so far.
Thank you to Mr. Gajapathy (Tennis Coach) and Mr. Sagar (owner Athena Sports Centre) for the management of all the requirements to conduct this contest, and making it a memorable inaugural experience!
